Feedback Needed
General thoughts and feedback. We've thoroughly enjoyed The Tank during testing. What do you think?
I think the tank is awesome except 2things. Price a little high, maybe $500. I built my system for $200 with a better pump and same size tank, but I wish I had a large mouth lid. 2nd issue, the refill is a cool idea but using my system where I need to refill in a number of different ways( mine is located in the same location as yours) the lid seems too high to dump water or get a hose in the top, at least from the video that’s the way it looks. I like the spot another person mentioned in the gearbox area.
One way to help control bacteria is to incorporate UV bulb technology into the tank, especially if this is going to be potentially used for drinking water. Also, it would be nice to be able to wrap a Molle panel around the outside so as not to lose the storage aspect. A tank heating element that could be regulated through an App would be important for cold climate use to prevent freeze damage.
Hey Kyle,
I like the idea. Personally I like my water system on the truck bed floor, but I can see the draw having it up high. You saw my water system when I picked up my camper, similar with the spray nozzle. A few things that I learned when making mine:
First, make sure to get the quietest pump you can. I bought a cheap one and it’s pretty loud. It sucks because it will wake everyone up in the camper, so when I wake up early I cannot make coffee until others wake up :-(. I wish I would have spent more to get a quiet version. On demand Diaphragm pump is the way to go and has worked well for me for years. Sometimes in the spring I have to run an air compressor through it to loosen up the pump that stuck over the winter.
Also, I used a hose connector that has a spring valve disconnect in both the female and male end, which has been awesome. It never spills when disconnecting the hose, even under pressure. Message me if you want a link.
For wiring I used a simple SAE connection and it’s been great. I also like having it on a disconnect switch so it cannot accidentally turn on when driving or sleeping, that would be a mess. After getting my camper, I wired it into the juice box on a channel I don’t use (I wish I could get a sticker to cover the label). It’s been awesome.
Great design. I like the big mouth and ability to draw from a creek.
I am using the same water pump on my current water set up in the back of my truck. Very nice quality water pump for this project. I’ve been using mine for probably three years and it’s running strong. Like the quick disconnect, like the easy to fill, like the volume of water. $600 seems a little high but easily worth 500.
I’d like this if it could mount to the side similar to the gear box. This would keep the window free and still allow use of the MOLLE panel.
